TERRY
T. TANAKA STUDENT
HUMANITARIAN AWARD
Justina S. Kennedy,
Senior Dental Student at University of Louisville School of Dentistry
is the winner of the 2006 Terry T. Tanaka Student Humanitarian
Award. The award was presented at the Convocation on
Saturday, October 15, 2006 by Dr. Terry T. Tanaka.
Dr. Tanaka lauded Ms. Kennedy for her many accomplishments and
dedication to humanitarian care and serving the less fortunate.
Dr. Tanaka spoke of Justina:
"She stands out far above the others because of her outstanding humanitarian efforts and because she exhibits the characteristics of a true leader. She is able to see the 'big picture'. She has demonstrated that she understands assessment requirements, how to perform a needs assessment, to develop a plan, write the grant and seek out those who can help her to carry out the project. She has been responsible for initiating major programs and carrying them out, as well as participating as a worker in the field trips. This is a major accomplishment for anyone even more so for a young dental student. Ms. Kennedy commands the respect of her peers and this is evident in their support of her projects to help the under served of both the United States and foreign countries."

Dr. Terry T. Tanaka, Ms. Justina Kennedy and President Rex Fortescue
The
Tanaka Student Humanitarian Award is graciously underwritten
by a grant from the Sunstar Butler Company. This is
the fifth year for the award to be given and the response
from the Dental School Deans has been overwhelmingly positive.
It is comforting to know that altruism and humanitarian service
