The
Academy of Dentistry International (Australasian Section)
is pleased to announce the inauguration of the Kevin
R. Allen Award with a value of $ 3,500 which will be
offered at occasional intervals. This is designed to
honor the memory of Fellow Kevin R. Allen who, at the
time of his sudden death in 1997, was the Regent for
this section of the ADI and also the President-elect
of the International Body based in Washington D.C. (USA).
During his practicing career he made notable contributions
to the study and teaching of Pedodontics in this country.
He was also noted for his work in international relationships
throughout the Asian Pacific region.
The
Award is intended to be widely based and the successful
applicants will be expected to present work completed
or work intended to be carried out in one or more of
the following areas.
1.
Research in the area of Pedodontics as evidenced by
papers already published or submitted for publication.
2.
Staff or student exchanges between dental schools in
developing countries and one or more Australian dental
schools.
3.
Travel grant for an experienced Australian dental teacher
to spend a period teaching in the Asian Pacific region.
4.
Travel grant for a newly qualified Pedodontist in specialist
practice to facilitate in a search for further education
in this subject.
5.
Specific items of dental equipment to be provided to
a Dental School in the Asian Pacific region.
This
list not meant to be exhaustive and any suitable proposal
will be considered. Applicants should submit initial
proposals (three copies) to the ADI by June 1, following
which they will be assessed by a Committee of the Academy.
Applicants whose projects are regarded as suitable may
then be asked to submit completely detailed plans for
final judgement.
