November 22 Italian Chapter Convocation

At the time of The Associazione Italiana Odontoiatri, the ADI Italian Chapter hosted a wonderful dinner to welcome and convocate new Fellows.  It was held at Ristorante Spirito DiVino. This restaurant is home to a wine cellar that is more than 2,000 years old!  It is located in this beautiful medieval house, with arched loggia. On the basis of the central column, are still visible Hebrew characters carved in marble. The ancient name of the alley, where the house is located, to the numbers 13 and 14, vicolo delle Palme, seems to be derived from the fact that there had been planted some palms in remembrance of Judea.  It was a beautiful setting for the occasion and a wonderful dinner was enjoyed by everyone.

August 9, 2012 Diamond Jubilee Dinner Meeting

The Australasia Section held a Diamond Jubilee dinner meeting on August 9 in Melbourne.  This marked the 60th Anniversary of the Queen's Accession to the Throne.  The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the ADI Distinguished Fellow Award to Dr. Graham Mount AM. Dr. Graham Mount was instrumental in establishing the Australasian Section.  In the mid-1980's, the process of developing a new Section to represent prominent members of the dental profession in Australia and New Zealand was needed.  In May 1988, the Australasia Section was established following much planning and vision from Dr. Mount.

Dr. Mount receives his Distinguished Fellow medallion from Dr. Edward Street, Regent.

Dr. Mount was instrumental in establishing the Australasian Section in 1988 and became its first Regent.  He has since been considered as the "father" of the Section.  The citation (read here) was read by Dr. Reg Hession following which Dr. Eddie Street made the presentation.  The evening was complimented with beautiful music played by a string quartet provided by the Australian National Academy of Music; a training institution for Australia's finest young musicians preparing them for placement in orchestras and ensembles both in Australia and abroad.

The Section congratulates two Fellows; Dr. Edward R. Street, Regent and Dr. Ian B. Watson who were recipients of National Awards and included in the Australia Day and Queen's Birthday Honours list.  Both Fellows were appointed Members of the Order of Australia.

Plans are now underway for the next Convocation and Dinner to take place in Melbourne in conjunction with the 35th Australian Dental Congress on April 2, 2013. This promises to be a very well attended Convocation and all Fellows globally are invited and encouraged to attend.

The Section will continue in its work and endeavour to uphold the ideals embraced by the Academy of Dentistry International.
