Committee Charter
  1. Shall consist of a Chairperson and at least three (3) Past-Presidents. 
  2. The chair of the committee shall be the immediate past- president and members should be past presidents exclusively. 
  3. This committee shall present to the Board of Regents (BoR) at its mid-term meeting at least six (6) months prior to annual BoR meeting, a slate of potential officers and Regents for the following year. 
  4. In the event that neither the President nor the President-Elect is able to fulfill the duties of the office of President, the Vice President of Finance &Administration shall assume same. In the event that Vice President of Finance & Administration is not available, Vice President of International Affairs shall assume same. In the event that Vice President of International Affairs is not available, Vice President of Education shall assume same with recommendation from this committee and final approval from the BoR. 
  5. This committee shall propose nominees and accept nominations from the membership for each of the Academy awards. They shall review the biographies and curriculum vitae of each nominee for an award at least six months prior to the annual meeting. The activities of the awardees shall be in consonance with the definition of the award when such is stated. They will also review awards by international sections, regencies or chapters given in the name of the Academy. Once this committee has selected a candidate for an award, a condensed biography and curriculum vitae shall be sent to the central office which in turn shall send these materials to the BoR for approval. 
  6. Once approved, the appropriate plaque or certificate shall be ordered by the central office. These awards should be presented at major dental meetings. These awards are the following:
    1. International Dentist of the Year: When awarded, this award will be presented at the annual meeting of the Academy.
    2. Humanitarian Award: When awarded, usually limited to one (or if married, a couple) awardee and not necessarily in dentistry or the health-care professions.
    3. Award of Distinction: When awarded, usually given to one person for outstanding, sustained excellence in continuing educational programs.
    4. Hillenbrand Award: When awarded, given to a fellow of the Academy who has shown unusual and long-term dedication to Academy activities, affairs and development however, it need not be presented every year.
    5. Honorary Fellowship: More than one may be given by the Board of Regents for the Academy worldwide.
    6. Regional/Section Awards: These awards are made on behalf of that Regency or Section and do not require the approval of the Board of Regents or of the Awards Committee.
